    If you want a career as a professional interior designer, then CIT’s Interior Design qualifications are a must. Our students graduate job ready with skills and knowledge to work in any Architectural or Design practice.

    Interior design is an exciting and challenging role; we will guide you through the process of transforming residential and commercial spaces, starting small and moving up to complex commercial and institutional design environments at the Advanced Diploma level.

    The first semester classes give students practical skills to provide advice and assistance on the styling of existing interior spaces. You'll learn about researching and analysis of a client brief, planning and arrangement of a given space, selection of colours, specification of finishes and furnishings and sourcing, costing and purchasing of products, lighting, construction and structural elements along with Building codes and regulations. You will learn how to work with clients, architects, builders, retailers and suppliers.

    A series of interactive projects and live briefs will teach you how to provide confident and proficient creative and technical solutions for interior residential, small commercial and institutional design projects. By developing your design and problem-solving skills, you will learn to utilise furnishings, material and the psychology of design, to work within project parameters, exploring the relationship between human activity and interaction, spatial design and sustainability.

    The Advanced Diploma engages students with designing for complex environments including facilities for people with disabilities, the aged, and adaptive re-use projects, managing the changing nature of design trends, the shift to eco-friendly materials and sustainability, as well as encouraging an appreciation of design culture through historical and theoretical perspectives. The option to do work placement in the industry assists students gaining employment.

    The program utilises different techniques of design communication and take advantage of using the latest software programs in our industry to produce computer-aided drawing, 3D modelling, design and documentation. Our teachers are all working in the industry, which along with site visits and industry involvement ensures the students are given up to date practices, knowledge and skills.

    The aged care sector is growing in Australia and worldwide as our lifespans increase and our needs become more complex. Within the industry, there is demand for workers in a variety of roles within residential facilities, in private homes and running day activities.

    During CIT’s Certificate III in Individual Support (Ageing), you will develop the skills and knowledge to work in both residential aged care and community-based facilities in jobs such as support worker, day activity worker, client services officer and individual care worker. This is augmented with 120 hours of work placement. This is organised by CIT. A CIT teacher supports students during work placements.

    The Certificate IV qualification is designed for people who have already completed the Certificate III or are currently employed in the community sector. The Certificate IV in Ageing Support places an emphasis on developing the skills and knowledge required to provide and coordinate home and community support up to a team leader or coordinator level.

    There are 120 hours of work placement in each program. This is organised by CIT and is delivered as three separate weeks within the semester. A CIT teacher supports students during work placements.

    If you are looking for a versatile community qualification with an array of job opportunities and a pathway to university, then CIT’s Community Services qualifications offer a firm foundation in assessing and working with the needs of clients in a variety of settings.

    The Certificate IV qualification develops the skills of workers to provide a range of services and interventions to clients, and to implement community education and interventions. Work may take place in a variety of contexts such as community-based organisations, residential rehabilitation services and outreach services and workers may have supervisory responsibilities.

    Those advancing to the Diploma program will develop skills, techniques and theories in the area of community welfare. You will have the opportunity to gain practical experience in the field of community welfare. Graduates of this program have found work as community welfare workers in health and community services fields.

    This program includes work placement (Cert IV qualifications requires 80 hours and Diploma qualifications 120 hours of placement). Before undertaking any industry placement, you must be eligible to apply for, and hold, a 'Working with Vulnerable People Check'. Information will be provided on enrolment.

    Diploma: 120 hours, unpaid.

    Students are encouraged to and regularly find their industry placements; however there is an Industry Placement Coordinator who manages relationships with community organisations throughout the Australia Capital Territory and who helps students finding an adequate placement.

    Working with children can be incredibly rewarding and choosing to be an Early Childhood and Care Professional allows students to build the skills to pursue this worthwhile and in-demand career path. These professionals contribute significantly to a child's life by helping to shape attitudes toward themselves, others and to learning.

    CIT’s Children’s Education and Care programs allow students to learn about children through observation, discussion and practical experience, and to develop interpersonal skills and team work strategies. It features practical units aimed at nurturing your understanding of child development and behaviour and to build your skills and abilities in caring for children.

    During the Certificate III program, students work on building the knowledge and skills to assist in the planning of learning environments and experiences for young children, as well as provide for their physical and emotional care.

    Those who advance to diploma-level study are given the opportunity to lead teams, manage programs and design and implement curriculum for children in Early Childhood Education and Care services.

    Students will undertake a series of four 120 hour professional work placements, at four different childcare centres, fully coordinated by CIT staff. These are unpaid however they are great networking opportunities and can eventually lead to casual, part-time employment.

    Working with community members who struggle with mental health issues and possible substance use is a specialised skill requiring proper training. CIT’s community service programs prepare students for working with these community members by providing knowledge of themselves and society. You will learn techniques for working with people one-on-one, in groups and a community work setting.

    Both programs teach major theories of sociology and psychology, as well as providing knowledge of basic mental health conditions and practical skills for working with alcohol and drug-affected people with mental health issues. They feature a practical work placement that will be assessed by CIT, which can be completed in Canberra or the student’s country of origin.

    If you are wishing to enter or are already working in the field, the Certificate IV program offers specialist skills, techniques and theories including learning to work in an alcohol and other drugs context, assessing the needs of clients and dealing with legal and ethical compliance.

    Students advancing to the diploma-level program will develop further skills, techniques and approaches to community welfare. They will build on their skills by investigating the impacts of sociological factors on clients and taking a continuous approach to developing professional practice.

    Nursing is a respected industry that is essential for the health of the community. Our Diploma program prepares you to work in a variety of health settings, including mental health, aged care, and hospitals. Upon successful completion of this qualification, you may apply to the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) to be considered for registration as an Enrolled Nurse.

    Mandatory clinical industry placement experience (unpaid, minimum of 400 hours in total) will be provided in areas such as acute care, aged care, mental health rehabilitation, community nursing, diabetic and wound clinics, primary health and palliative care. The hours generally are broken up in blocks of 1 week, 2 weeks or 3 weeks throughout the three semesters.
